I think the post about "identical" photos not allowed means the physical size, not the actual photo. You may also want to look for phone apps that will allow you to take your own photo with the proper sizing for each country. I used a millimeter ruler and razor blade to cut them to the proper size for Irish regulations. I had a few printed since they only cost a few cents. I then enlarged it about 10% to have less background, pasted several copies into a standard (US) 4圆" photo frame, and uploaded back to the Costco photo website to have it printed on their high quality printer. I took that photo and scanned it into my computer. They actually print four pictures on a single piece of paper and then have a die to cut them out to the correct size, for the US. What I ended up doing is getting a standard US passport photo taken at Costco. Looks like there are now digital options not available when I did mine a few years ago.
Passport photo maker uk how to#
I know Ireland has a very detailed instruction on how to have the picture formatted on the passport website. Ireland's photo must be slightly larger and your face is supposed to fill a larger percentage of the area. I had issues getting photos for my Irish passport since I am in the US which uses a different standard than Ireland. I am going to see if I can get MarkC66 to comment on this thread as well.Īm I correct in thinking that you would need different countersignatories for British passport photos and Irish ones, or would it be legal to use the same person for both? See 'MarkC66' 's comments on this thread ( )

Someone with some insider knowledge of how Irish passport photos work commented on the 2009 thread and I seem to remember them saying that the computer sometimes rejects a photo because of where a strand of hair may lie (If not that, then they made a point which indicated that the system for accepting and rejecting Irish passport photos was very sensitive and particular). Thanks for the replies thus far everyone - hadn't realised there were differences between British and Irish photos and that you couldn't use identical ones! Does this mean that I would need to wear different tops in the photos for each country? What are the differences between British and Irish passport photos? Irish photos can be either colour or black and white but I believe that British photos must be in colour. I am considering getting photos done at the London Irish Centre (which has a PhotoMe booth) and using them for both the British and Irish passports. However, they didn't clarify whether the photo should be 35mm wide by 45mm tall or vice versa. Some sources say Irish photos need to be minimum 35x45mm and max 38x50mm. I've tried reading about the differences in standards between British and Irish photos, but have been very confused by the measurements for Irish photos. I am a British citizen who wants an Irish passport and needs to renew their British passport. I've had a read of this forum and found some useful details.
